Project Runway Season Six: Episode Eight

"Divorcee Wedding Challenge"

Our fashion heroes's challenge is to redesign a young woman's former wedding gown and create a hip, new, and sexy outfit incorporating their wedding dress into the design. The remaining 9 fashion designers randomly selected the 9 divorces whose range of wedding gowns ranged from a lot of material.

What was exciting to see was nine beautiful and gorgeous former wedding brides and their wedding gowns. Some of these beautiful designs ranged from full figured, strapless, large trains with covered the entire room, some had appliques, lace and some just tight with not a lot of material to work with. The best comment I head from one of the female designers was Irina who said that, "transforming a wedding gown into another design by moving forward  felt very empowering!"

So after meeting with the divorcees, our designers set out to design something they would like to wear, some even brought sketches of what their dress should look like. Then off to "Mood's" with a budget of $25 and limit of 2 yards of fabric because the essence of the challenge was to use the wedding gown/dress as the core of their new transformation design.

Most of the designer's dyed their torn apart wedding material. Some even used the lining and appliques. What I didn't care for was the designers attitudes  lying on air to the clients. Telling them you will look beautiful and gorgeous yet knowing that their designs were just to get them past this challenge onto the next one. Was that part of the show, making fun of the divorcees' lack of fashion sense?

Sherin created a new design of the wedding material by stitching a Cris cross swirled pattern in blue lace, very short sleeveless dress that drew your attention to the blue ribbon tied up front and around the back of Robin's back and their ribbon tails hanging long. Accessories included blue and white bangles. Matching blue high heels and a small colorful feather in her coiffed black hair.




Althea made this care free blue and white dress, it had that care free look." that Marlyn was all smiles about. The blue colored neckline was very flattering that showed off her full figure, short sleeves were in white, vertical lines drew your attention to her "V" shaped chest area. I even loved her handbag  and her tan colored heels. Plus her hair was styled so carefree and natural full body Black trim along the dress's hemline. I love this dress and how Marlyn came down the runway, amazing gorgeous. I wonder how a woman this beautiful is divorced, as do the others?


 


Gordana made this sensational "winning" elegant, very flattering, edgy silver dress. It was sleeveless, halter style the herringbone lined design was made from the wedding dress's lining. It started from the back and the lines went all around to the front then made a star burst pattern all in different directions onto the bottom hem of the dress. Beautifully tailored for Annie to wear right off the show. Annie's hair was styled full bodied and care free, black hip boots added to the effect along with black bangles. She owned that piece on the runway as Michael Korr's mentioned.

 

Irina made this gorgeous copper dye colored dress, which the judges loved. Some of the comments were, "very impressive," loved how you shed the wedding dress skin," "the color of the dress made it look very expensive to make, "" she owned it!" Heidi Klum, who always looks gorgeous but this week especially with her outfit and beaded jeweled necklace, "unbelievable; fantastic job!" So why didn't Irina win again this week? Was it they didn't want her to have three wins and give some one else a chance?




This week the men failed to even pass the test of creating something like a wedding dress into another piece of clothing, is it taboo when men think of weddings that they fall apart? Epperson missed the concept and was sent home. Logan decided to make what the client wanted and failed miserably at it. Christopher made the "worst dress list" as Michael Korr's commented, "space metallic bubble dress." So my question is what do the ladies who watching themselves on TV see this and think, "what do I do with this cut up wedding dress and the designers assigned to it, destroyed it! Who will be the final four or three designers for fashion week? Who is your favorite designer. I am routing for Irina, she seems to know what she's doing more so than the others, but Gordana is clever too.

Project Runway: Season Six: Episode Seven

"The Sky is the Limit"

After six episodes we have come down to the first team challenge. Here's were the fashion designers become, "resentful or friendly" towards one another. Their complicated personalities come into play and towards one another besides it past the halfway point. The show started with 16 fashion designers now we down to 10.

In this challenge the designers must sketch and pitch two ideas, both in blue, to an Executive from Macy's Inc. The winning designer will receive "immunity" and their dress design placed in all Macy's stores. Finally a challenge worth recognition where their own fashion design would be seen by thousands of people who will visit Macy's stores.

However, they must pitch a favorable design to be chosen and selected as team leader. Two designs are needed from each team so the other person helps the team leader win and stay alive in the selection process.

Irina wowed the Macy's Inc. Executive with her vision for two looks, the first look was a two-tone blue and white print dress, sleeveless dark blue v-shaped top, which looked sensational on Katie. Katie's hair was pulled back into a ponytail, she carried a small matching clutch and open toed heels.





However, Gordano complained throughout this challenge that she did not have any input into her design. Irina complained that she would rather do the entire design herself and hates telling people what to do.




Gordano which was Irina's team mate designed a light blue with puffed short sleeved v-shaped blouse, solid blue skirt, waist was cinched tight. Accessories included bangles and a larger clutch purse and black heels. Matar looked stunning all-around and her hair was pulled back in a long beautiful ponytail.

Team mates Carol and Althea designed two different outfits. Carol designed this gorgeous off setting, light blue and dark blue dress with a very short and very sheik matching blue scarf which looked awesome on model Ebony. With bright red sexy heels added to the overall effect.

Althea designed this very beautiful blue long sleeve suit and matching skirt. The jacket was short and flared out to the sides giving it a very feminine look. The chest line came to a "V" exposing the grayish camersole underneath. Model Tara looked sensational as her was pulled back and parted to the side leaving the back of her hair full and lots of body. For accessories she carried a small matching blue colored clutch and open toed "x" shaped high heeled sandals completed her look.

One other look I liked was Sherin whose blue and black colored tunic blouse with black leggings was beautiful and look spectacular on model Vanessa. A beautiful neckline with oddies of creative stitching that allowed the blouse to "flow" over Vanessa's shoulders, her hair was pulled back in to a cute bun. I loved the tunic belt shape that came down and the leggings looked awesome and matched her open topped heels.

The winner was designer Irina with her design that Matar had on. Out of the four teams Louise had to leave because Nicholas won the previous week and won immunity, otherwise he might have been sent home also. Or maybe they just wanted to put a scare into him for more greatness.

We also heard from Epperson and Christopher, whose emotions got the best of him and I believe saved himself from being eliminated while emotionless Louise was removed from the fashion line-up and the competition. The judges comments about their designs can be ruthless and they don't hold back anything, especially Michael Korr's, LOL.

My guess it could be Irina or even Gordano...Christopher is very emotional and puts a lot of heart and soul, into his work. Maybe it's just too early to tell at this point...What about Logan, Heather and Carol, (she looked so cute in her hair curlers, LOL).

Project Runway-Season Six Episode Six: Movie Genre

This week finds our remaining eleven designers with a challenge of designing a runway costume with a Movie Genre theme. The choices included Sci Fiction, Western,  Action and Adventure, Film etc.

$150 in materials and 30 minutes to choose a character based on their assignment card. Plus, each designer had 30 minutes to view a manuscript of what theme the judges were looking for in the costume they are making as a guide. After a 30 minute shopping spree to buy materials our crew our designers heads back to the work room to start constructing their design and can work until midnight to complete most of the work and have a few hours to finish off the design for the models fitting, hair and make-up.

The guest judges include some of the great costume and set designers, John Veritas, Zoe, Glassier and costume designer Diane Phillips.

The final judging came down to six designers: Ra'mon, Gordana, Nicholas, Efferson and Christopher.

Christopher creates a spectacular "vampire themed" ruffled "puffed out" bottom sleeveless dress with loads of details including: a high neck collar pulled up with a small pearl pin, Katie looked sensational with her fingerless white gloves, black lacing on the waist.

Epperson didn't want to choose his western style garment but it made model Matar look gorgeous. She had on a "western bad girl" theme dress, large ruffled collar which looked like feathers and formed a "M" across her breast line, leather waist wrap, her brown cowboy boots were covered with a beautiful ruffled black dress which gave the appearance of an older style western "saloon hall" girl and white gusset underneath.

Nicholas designed a gorgeous Sci Fiction "Ice Princess White evening gown, which wowed the judges (as one of the three guest judges Ariana mentioned, "Nicholas white lace detail , make-up created a fantasy that would show up under the stage lights...) He left no greater attention to details this week after almost going home last week; by making his model Celine look spectacular floating down the runway, white lace detail, and flower leave pattern sequins, high collared front and to the sides appeared as she had white crystal antennae" coming from under her collar, even her make-up and black hair were sprinkled with white ice and I even loved her open toed shoes and bright red toenail polish.She looked amazingly beautiful and he rightfully deserved to win this week's challenge.

I love the added features that the Bravo' TV's Project Runway has to offer, with fashion designer blogs, hair and make-up tips from Garnier Fructis and Loreal Paris, designer's portfolios, bios, more photos, etc. Best of all is the "Rate the Runway" mode which allows extra views of the models clothing (front, rear and side) so you can look at the detail the designers create each and every week, (and by using your mouse can scan with the giant magnifying glass mode).

It was sad to see Designer R'mon leave Project Runway but his green alien mess design didn't cut it with the judges standards.

Project Runway-Season Six Episode Five

Twelve Designers are left from last week's show and this week the designers challenge is to create an outfit using newspaper from the LA Times newspaper sections. They were sections on sports, finance, images, etc.

They could colorful dyes, glue, scotch tape, markers, imagination to create a wearable garment for the judging on the runway. The biggest upset was Johnny when Tim made a remark about his look being too artsy crafty, so he trashed it and throw the whole thing away instead of using it as a base. He got so depressed, and just starting doing crossword puzzles as if he didn't care anymore, his passion was gone.

 Project Runway new web site is so advanced now, you can rate the runway, observe each outfit, it has a front, back and fabric mode, plus a Hugh magnifying glass moves as you scan with the mouse. It also makes it hard to copy photos onto my web blog, LOL.

Nicholas seems to lack confidence in his work and will he make it to the next challenge is my guess. I love Sher in, she's so full of energy, child-like spirit but I love her passion. Most of the other designers don't have her flair for fashion, her funky style we will see later on I expect.

So on to the judging:

The winner was Irina who made this gorgeous fur-like trench coat. The fur was made by bunching up newspaper and gluing it on the collar and bottom of the sleeves. It looked sensational on her model Kalyn, Tommy Hilfiger, one of the judges thought the new fur, newspaper. She has immunity for the next challenge. What worked for her? Other than Esperson's design with Hugh open sleeves, the trench coat was brilliant, she took a risk with full length sleeves, the other designers did not, large pockets and a belt in front (possibly made by markers). With go-go style boots and a black clutch everything fit together like a glove

Next, I love the dressing gown Christopher made, it started like a Hugh fan of cut paper, that looked like feathers and the top was like armor paper, like a breast plate. Irina and him seem to have great fashion sense. I actually thought he would win because his model Katie looked so beautiful, but the fur trench coat had more style and she took more risks then he did; and was completely different than all the others however, Christopher's long gown was very well made. It was still my favorite piece in the whole show.

Althea made this curved, well made sleeveless paper dress. The newsprint all matched and was made to have this swirling angle effect; plus when the model moved down the runway it crinkled and bounced back giving it the effect of fabric, even the hem of the paper dress was cut evenly.

Johnny went home, probably for the best, his lack of passion and lack of working while others did proved, if you can't cut it in the fashion world, you out. Even with his model's encouragement couldn't get him motivated to work anymore.

Beautiful Just The Way You Are (BJTWYA.)

Sometimes an opportunity comes along your way and you meet someone with a vision, a vision to change the ways people think about things and maybe history itself. One such individual is my dear friend Lillian. I call her my dear friend because after meeting and talking with her, she is such an amazing women.

Her vision is to place small 8 1/2×11 size posters in front of every magazine on a magazine rack in a bookstore (or anyplace that sells magazines) that you find offensive to women. It could be any magazine that makes women feel uncomfortable with themselves, or their own bodies and/or that “we are objects (women) yet we are flawed in some manner…”

From Beautiful Just the way you are

”...an art action to protest the relentless objectification of girls and women throughout our culture. Launched on May 30, 2009 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, BEAUTIFUL Just The Way You Are takes place at any magazine rack, the most common place where we encounter the message that we are objects yet we are flawed. Please Send Your Prayers to Teagan for his Surgery

One of my closet and caring friends on 43 things.com is Yrush. Yrush is a happily married woman to Ralph her loving husband. They both have two lovely children, Ethan the eldest and little Teagan. Both of her children are quite a handful but Yrush loves them so much I call her “Super mom” because she always takes such good care of them even when Ethan wants to ride his bicycle in the house

Nevertheless, little Teagan has a small problem. It appears his infant skull bone has fused closed, causing his right eye socket to slightly droop a bit. Normally, this doesn’t happen until the age of 6-7 years of age. Little Teagan is only six months old! He needs surgery to correct this problem, he needs a Sagittal Craniosynostosis whereas they bore small holes and remove sections of the infant’s skull to allow a plastic surgeon to make even more sutures that will correct and help shaope the child’s head from then on. Remarkably the Rice family is not asking for funds to be raised for littel Teagan’s operation, they are not even asking for anything but your prayers and hopes as their little infant Teagon goes through this unique operation on Sunday May 19, 2009.

Please, if you may, say a prayer for Teagan the next time your head hits the pillow tonight and every night until his operation is completed safely. Thank you.
